The School of Information currently has three first-rate major construction sites: Computer Science and Technology, Information Management and Information Systems, and E-commerce. Among them, Computer Science and Technology was selected as a national first-rate major in 2020, Information Management and Information Systems was selected as a first-rate major in Shanxi Province in 2020, and E-commerce was selected as a first-rate major in Shanxi Province in 2019.
1\ Computer Science and Technology major: the major was approved as a Master's program in Computer Application Technology and recruited students in 2007. In 2014, it passed the undergraduate professional evaluation of Shanxi Province and ranked among the top in terms of evaluation grades, and passed the undergraduate professional review and evaluation of Ministry of Education in 2017. It ranked among the top 53% in the 2019 China First-class Discipline Ranking by the Alumni Association.
This major closely revolves around the major strategic needs of the country, fully relies on our school's advantageous disciplines such as finance, statistics, and management, aiming for "new engineering", using cutting-edge technologies such as artificial intelligence and big data, focusing on business intelligence, financial technology, and other fields, forms a distinctive feature of "science and engineering as the foundation, and management as the soul" that integrates computer science, economics, and management.
2\ Information Management and Information Systems: the major initially recruited students in 1982 (formerly known as "Economic Information Management" and renamed to "Information Management and Information Systems" in 1997). It has been recruiting students nationwide for 40 consecutive years and has delivered 37 sessions of high-quality talents to the society. In 2007 and 2020, it was successively awarded as "Shanxi Province Undergraduate Brand Major" and "Shanxi Province First-class Undergraduate Major".
This major is rooted in the prominent characteristics of information science and a strong academic atmosphere of finance and economics, forming a distinct feature of "information technology as the foundation and economic management as the wings". Students are able to provide solutions to business problems using modern information technology as the basic means, including the ability to design, plan, and manage information system projects based on IT technology for business innovation; and the application ability of business data analysis technology, that is, to obtain business value capabilities for enterprises from data. Graduates in the past three years have mainly engaged in technical positions such as information system analysis, design, and implementation, as well as business management positions such as business data analysis and management consulting. Some outstanding students continue to pursue master's degrees in computer science, management, or economics related disciplines both domestically and internationally.
3\ E-commerce: The undergraduate major in E-commerce was established in 2002 and is one of the first batch of E-commerce majors in Shanxi universities. In 2013, it was rated as a "Characteristic Major of Shanxi Province" and in 2019, it was rated as a first-class major construction site in Shanxi Province.
Guided by the concept of new liberal arts construction and adhering to the talent cultivation concept of "people-oriented, moral education first, ability first, and quality essential", the major has constructed an education and teaching training model of "basic theory technology application practical training". The major places the emphasis on the cross integration of economics, management, and engineering disciplines, deepens the collaborative education between schools and enterprises, highlights the cultivation of innovation and entrepreneurship capabilities, focuses on the direction of business intelligence, strengthens the development and operation capabilities of business systems, forms a professional characteristic of "interdisciplinary, equal emphasis on business and technology, leading innovation and entrepreneurship, and school enterprise collaboration", and delivers a large number of outstanding talents to the national and local economic construction in Shanxi.
